Total Movements Executes End-to-End Logistics of 2 Coke Drums for One of the Largest Oil Refineries in India

2 min read

How Did Total Movements Handle This Heavy-Lift Operation?

Total Movements, a member of the XLProjects Network (XLP), successfully managed the multimodal, door-to-door transport of two coke drums, each weighing 643 metric tons, for one of India’s largest oil refineries.
The operation, totaling over 10,200 freight tons (FRT), showcased the company’s strength in project cargo logistics—from factory dispatch to final foundation placement.

What Did the Scope Include?

The project combined multiple transport modes: road, river, and coastal shipping. Each drum was moved from the supplier’s factory to a jetty by road, rolled onto a barge, shipped to a nearby port, and then transported inland for installation.
This required close coordination between engineering, marine, and inland logistics teams to maintain precision and safety.

Scope of Work:
• Road transport from factory to jetty
• Roll-on operation onto barge
• Coastal shipment to refinery-side port
• Inland delivery and foundation placement
• End-to-end supervision and documentation

What Challenges Were Overcome?

The project took place during India’s heavy monsoon season, adding complexity to every phase. Despite weather constraints and limited infrastructure, Total Movements executed the job safely and on schedule.

Key Challenges:

  1. Managing multimodal coordination across road and marine routes
  2. Working under monsoon conditions and strict safety standards
  3. Navigating tide and permit constraints
  4. Handling ODC cargo on poor road infrastructure
