Conveyor Logistics Limited (CLL) has handled the first-ever transportation of pipes to any project site in Bangladesh by Tow-Barge. An overall of 6,722 meters of 2.3-meter diameter High Density Poly-Ethylene (HDPE) pipes for Matarbari 1200 MW Coal-fired Power Plant Project were towed in 12 pipe-strings (six pipe strings with length of 500 meters and another six with length of 620 meters). The total weight of the pipes were 3,850 tons.
The pipe-strings were towed by a Tow-Barge on a 16,300 km voyage from Stathelle in Southern Norway to a Power Plant Project site in southern Bangladesh. Conveyor Logistics Limited is proud to have been associated with and handling this transportation of pipes by a unique floatation method first-ever adopted for a long-haul transportation of large diameter pipes. This is a new milestone achievement for Conveyor Logistics Limited.
The 72-day and 16,300-kilometer voyage from Stathelle, Norway commenced on 19 August 2020 and arrived on 30 October 2020 at the Power Plant Project site at Matarbari, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.
The pipes will be used for construction of cooling water pipeline of 1,200MW Matarbari Coal-fired Power Plant, which is now under construction, with an estimated investment of about US$4.5 billion. For operation, the power plant will require an incredible 180,000m³/h of water that is to be supplied by a reverse osmosis (RO) desalination plant. The RO plant will draw water from the Bay of Bengal.
